Acquisition of Recognized Leader in K-12 Online Assessment Expands Product Suite; Strengthens Weld North Education as End-to-End Solutions Provider to Educators

Second Significant Acquisition in 2019 Reinforces Commitment to Digitally Transform Education by Harnessing the Power of Data-Driven Learning

New York, March 6, 2019 – Weld North Education (“WNE”), a leading Pre-K–12 digital curriculum company focused on unlocking the power of technology for learning, announced today that it has acquired Assessment Technology, Inc. (“ATI”), the recognized psychology of learning and educational measurement market leader in K-12 online assessment. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

ATI was founded by John Bergan, Ph.D. in 1986 with a mission to create and distribute technology that promotes learning. From its inception, ATI has implemented an evidence-based approach to education in which assessment is implemented for the purpose of guiding learning. ATI operates two flagship applications – Galileo K-12 and Galileo Pre-K – and will join Weld North Education’s portfolio of existing digital education companies, Edgenuity and Imagine Learning. Weld North Education recently announced its pending acquisition of Glynlyon, a world-class digital curriculum company serving more than 1 million students in the institutional and consumer education markets. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of 2019 subject to regulatory approval.

“The addition of ATI to Weld North Education underscores our belief in – and commitment to –the value of comprehensive assessment as a critical tool in harnessing the adaptive power and unlocking the promise of digital education,” stated Jonathan Grayer, CEO of Weld North Education. “We know that regular, validated and formative progress monitoring increases the education rate of students, allows for more individualized learning paths and provides teachers with important data and information that enables them to do what they do best: get the most from their students across a wide range of subjects. ATI is in a class of its own with unparalleled intellectual and analytical capabilities. Coupled with our other top-tier digital education assets, Weld North Education is now the largest pure play online education curriculum and assessment company in the U.S.”

According to Weld North Education, ATI’s Galileo products will be integrated with the broad range of Weld North Education offerings and continue to be supported for its diverse customer base without disruption. ATI will report directly into Weld North Education’s portfolio company Imagine Learning. Dr. Bergan, and his tenured management team, will remain with the business.

Bryan Sparks, co-President of Imagine Learning, said, “The acquisition of ATI supercharges our assessment capabilities overnight, adding the most comprehensive psychometric research in the industry into our products. Dr. Bergan and his team have a sterling reputation, and we look forward to collaborating, expanding our reach across classroom and district assessment systems and leveraging our national footprint to bring these tools to more classrooms and school districts. ATI will be a differentiator for Imagine Learning and we are excited to welcome the very talented ATI team to our organization.”

Dr. Bergan, President of ATI, has over 30 years of research experience in the area of children’s development. He received his Ph.D. in Psychology and Education from the University of Michigan and is the author of several books and over 70 articles in scientific journals in education and psychology. Dr. Bergan is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association and the recipient of the Palmer O. Johnson Award from the American Educational Research Association, the Distinguished Psychologist Award from the Arizona State Psychological Association and a Presidential Citation from the National Child Care Association.

“We are delighted to join Weld North Education and its portfolio of digital education and curriculum companies. Our longstanding mission has been to create technology to promote learning, and we couldn’t have found better partners to further advance our Galileo products,” said Dr. Bergan.
