About Us
Weld North operates Imagine Learning, the largest pure-play Pre-K-12 digital education company in the US. In addition, Weld North makes investments in high potential businesses in the education industry. We are focused across the education spectrum: Pre-K-12, Post-Secondary and Lifelong Learning & Corporate Training. By attracting highly motivated and distinctly talented professionals, Weld North looks to accelerate growth and improve educational outcomes through an obsessive focus on enhancing the customer experience, operational excellence, marketing expertise and disciplined financial management.
History
Weld North was founded in 2010 by Jonathan Grayer, former Chairman and CEO of Kaplan, Inc., to create the best digital curriculum capabilities and resources in the world by enabling teachers, administrators, parents and students to benefit from innovative technologies. In partnership with KKR, Weld North made over fifteen investments in the education technology space. In 2018, Weld North’s K12 digital assets were sold to Silver Lake and since that time the business has realized significant organic growth as well as executed a number of add-on acquisitions to its core business. Also in 2018, Weld North sold its educator professional development and assessment technology business to Powerschool and its OPM business to John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Since then, Weld North has brought together all its K-12 digital assets under the Imagine Learning brand, and in 2021, Weld North brought in an additional partner in Onex.
Our Strategy
Weld North appreciates the time, focus and expertise required to grow successful technology-enabled education businesses. Our longer investment time horizon plus a willingness to make organic and new investments over time leads to businesses that produce the best results for students, teachers and investors.
